“Nighttime Summerman” is a seven-minute circle of psychedelic pedal steel that “gets you into a trance and makes you miss your exit. It was the first time the album began to sound beautiful to me. I built the song around a droney pedal steel and a Fender electric 12-string part, and then I played a lush Hammond Organ solo in the middle of the song, through a Leslie cab, which was then echoed and complimented by Steven Morrison's beautiful piano stylings. Jeff Calder's Jazzmaster volume swells and guitar solo sounds like eerie whale calls, and Robert Schmid's drums are big and majestic. Jeff encouraged me to dive into some of my poetry folios to glean lyrics for the song, and really started becoming invaluable as the Producer for this project. Greg "Fern" Quesnel mixed this track, and he did an astounding job."
